Bonney tabbed D3hoops.com 3rd team All-American

Last week was quite a week for Hobart College's Richie Bonney.

The senior forward was named first team All-East by both the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and D3hoops.com. He became just the second NABC All-American in program history, earning second team honors. Bonney accepted the Jostens Trophy as the most outstanding player in Division III men's basketball, and played in the NABC Reese's® Division III College All-Star Game. He capped the week by becoming just the fourth Statesman to earn All-America recognition from D3hoops.com.

The website announced its 17th All-America teams on Saturday prior to the tipoff of the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship game. Bonney received third team recognition, the highest for a Hobart player. Each of the Statesmen's previous three honorees—Rob Pisanelli in 2000, Joe Corbett in 2003, and Stefan Thompson in 2013—garnered honorable mention.

This season, Bonney led Hobart in points (591), rebounds (318), field goals made (234), field goal percentage (.578), free throws made (117), steals (39), and blocked shots (34). He led the Liberty League in rebounding and ranked second in scoring and field goal percentage. Bonney scored at least 11 points in each of his final 32 college basketball games, including the Reese's® All-Star Game, notching 20 or more points 18 times.

Bonney shared team-high honors with 15 points, helping the West squad to a 104-101 win on Saturday. His layup with 8:17 remaining tied the score at 86, igniting a 9-0 run that he finished off with a jumper to put the West up seven, a lead it never relinquished. The 2013-14 Liberty League Player of the Year and three-time all-conference selection holds the Hobart career records for points (1,738), field goals made (680), field goal percentage (.583), and games played (114). Bonney holds the Statesmen season record for field goal percentage (.624 in 2012-13) and shares the season marks for games played (29 in 2011-12 and 2013-14) and games started (29 in 2013-14).

Over the past four seasons, Bonney led Hobart to an 87-27 (.763) record, more wins and a higher winning percentage than any previous Statesmen class. He guided Hobart to four consecutive Liberty League regular season championships, winning the conference tournament championship in 2013 and 2014. Bonney and the Statesmen won the 2011 ECAC Upstate Tournament title then appeared in three straight NCAA Championships, advancing to the second round in 2012 and 2014.

Just the second class to graduate without suffering a losing season, Bonney is the first Statesman to play for four straight 20-win teams.
