The 1984 Hobart lacrosse team celebrates after winning the program's fifth consecutive national championship.
The Hobart College Statesmen Athletic Association will honor three national championship-winning lacrosse teams on Saturday, April 26. During a halftime ceremony, the 1983, 1984, and 1985 teams will officially become Hobart Teams of Distinction.

The teams will be recognized at Boswell Field during the Northeast Conference lacrosse showdown between the Statesmen and Saint Joseph's University. The game will be televised by Time Warner Cable Sports Channel and broadcast on WEOS-FM (89.5/90.3 in Geneva).

The 1983, 1984, and 1985 lacrosse Statesmen captured the program's fourth, fifth, and sixth consecutive NCAA Division III national championships, a streak that eventually stretched to 12 straight titles, an unprecedented era of sustained dominance in men's lacrosse.

In 1983, Hobart went 13-2, beating teams from all three NCAA divisions. The Statesmen began the season with consecutive victories over North Carolina, Boston College, and Delaware. The Statesmen closed out the campaign on a seven-game winning streak, prevailing in each of its NCAA tournament games by no less than four goals. Hobart defeated Roanoke in the title game, scoring a then championship game record 13 goals to best the Maroons by four behind the tournament's Most Outstanding Player, attackman

The Team of Distinction classification was created by the Statesmen Athletic Association to honor the very best teams in Hobart history. Teams become eligible for Team of Distinction recognition 10 years after the completion of their season. Typically, a Team of Distinction has won a conference, regional or national championship; or been undefeated over the course of its season; or considered to be one of the "very best Hobart teams ever" in the respective sport; or has overcome exceptional challenges to be successful.
