3 Statesmen golfers named All-Academic

Three members of the Hobart College golf team earned a spot on the 2013-14 Liberty League All-Academic Team. Senior Dillon Sass, junior Billy Abrams, and sophomore Jay Puleo represented the Statesmen.

To be eligible for All-Academic honors, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.2.

A three-time Liberty League All-Academic selection, Sass led Hobart with a 76.8 scoring average. He finished in the top 10 at seven of 10 events this season, including three top five finishes. In his final collegiate tournament, Sass tied for third place in the Oswego Invitational, his best finish of the season. His accomplishments on the course earned him a spot on the PING All-Northeast team, the first Statesman to be so honored. Sass graduated in May with a bachelor's degree in media and society.

A transfer from the U.S. Naval Academy, Abrams had an 82.0 scoring average this season, finishing in the top 10 (7th) at the Hobart Invitational. He carded his best round of the campaign, a 75, in the first round of the Liberty League Qualifier Tournament. Abrams is an international relations major.

Puleo competed in five rounds this year. He produced his best finish and his lowest round at the Pitt-Bradford Invitational, shooting an 80 to finish tied for 16th place in the field of 62. Puleo is a biochemistry major.

Hobart lowered its team scoring average by 13.7 strokes over last season. Two of the team's top three scores this season came in the Liberty League Qualifier as the Statesmen improved their team score by 21 strokes over last season, moving up one spot in the team standings. Hobart produced third place showings in the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Championships and the Nazareth Fall Invitational.
