Due to the wintery forecast for Saturday, the Hobart College lacrosse team's home opener against Cornell University has been rescheduled for Friday, Feb. 20, at 5 p.m. in the Greater Binghamton Sports Complex. Admission for all fans is free.
Â
One of the oldest rivalries in collegiate sports, the game will be the 134th meeting between the Statesmen and Big Red. First contested in 1898, Cornell leads the series 83-46-3.
Â
The game will be broadcast live by WHWS-FM (105.7) and fans can follow the game online with Live Stats. Due to the change in venue, there will be no All-Access Video.
Â
Hobart is coming off a season-opening 12-8 victory over MAAC preseason favorite Siena. That game too was rescheduled for an indoor facility due to the weather. Seniors
Zach Reed and
Taylor Vanderbeek led the offense. Reed sported a team-high four points (2g,2a) and Vanderbeek notched a second half hat trick. Defensively, sophomore goalie
Jackson Brown posted a career-high 13 saves to earn his first collegiate win. He was also named the Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
Â
Tenth-ranked Cornell is looking to rebound from a season-opening loss at then No. 4 Syracuse 14-6. Connor Buczek scored a team-high three goals while goalie Christian Knight made 13 saves. The Big Red won last season's meeting 12-8 in Ithaca. The Big Red scored five times in the final three minutes, including twice in the final 20 seconds, to break open an otherwise close game.
Â
Hobart will now play its first home game on Tuesday, March 3 when Colgate University visits Boswell Field.
