Conboy, Storch nab four wins at Vassar Sprint Invite

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The William Smith College swimming and diving team finished in second place out of five teams at the 2016 Vassar Sprint Invite this afternoon. Junior Caroline Conboy and sophomore Katie Storch each had a hand in four victories to lead the Herons.
 
William Smith started the meet quickly with a first place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. Storch, Conboy, Kelsey Bohl, and Nicole Katchis stopped the clock with a winning time of 1:54.19. The Herons out touched Vassar's relay by .42 seconds. Storch's second win of the day came in the 100 backstroke. She recorded a one second victory with a time of 1:02.06. Storch also touched the wall first in the 50 backstroke and 50 freestyle.
 
Conboy's stellar season continued at the Vassar Invite. She broke three meet records and set a new school mark. In her first individual event, the 50 breaststroke, she outswam the completion by two seconds, touching the wall with a winning time of 31.11. Vassar's Anna Kuo finished second, two seconds back. In the 100 individual medley, Conboy collected a three second victory. Her time of 1:01.26 was a new meet record and also lowered the school record that she set a week ago. Conboy closed out her meet with a first place finish and another meet record in the 100 breaststroke.  She turned in a four second victory with a time of 1:07.05.  
 
Bohl turned in a first place finish in the 50 butterfly, stopping the clock at 28.96 seconds. William Smith alsofinished second, third, fourth and, sixth in the event. Sophomore Emily Haskins was a mere .06 seconds behind Bohl, first-year Therese Mandracchia and Nicole Katchis finished with times of 29.11 and 29.12 respectively. Bohl also placed second in the 50 backstroke and fourth in the 50 freestyle.
 
On the diving board, Mandracchia posted a score of 222.95 to take the one-meter competition. First-years Emily Wilkinson and Hannah Schley finished in fifth and sixth respectively.
 
Vassar won the Invitational with 642 points, William Smith finished with 548 points. Skidmore finished third with 217 points.
 
William Smith will return to the competition pool on Feb. 17 when they head to Ithaca, N.Y. for the Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association Championships.
