Hobart to host Mount Union in NCAA opener

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College football team will host the University of Mount Union in the first round of the NCAA Division III Football Championship on Saturday, Nov. 19. Kickoff on Boswell Field at the Caird Center for Sports and Recreation is scheduled for noon.
 
The Statesmen (9-1) will be making their 10th NCAA playoff appearance and first since 2014. The Statesmen are 9-9 in their previous nine playoff appearances, advancing as far as the quarterfinals in 2012 and 2014.
 
Hobart won the Liberty League's automatic berth into the 32-team field. After finishing the regular season with a 56-27 win over Rochester, the Statesmen moved up three spots to No. 19 in the latest D3football.com Top 25.
 
The Raiders (9-1) are making their record 28th NCAA playoff appearance. Mount Union is 91-15 in the playoffs, winning 12 national championships.
 
The Raiders finished second in the Ohio Athletic Conference and received one of six at-large bids into the field. Mount Union fell from No. 1 to No. 7 in the D3football.com poll after suffering their first regular season loss in 113 games, a 31-28 defeat against John Carroll.
 
Hobart and Mount Union have met three times before. The Statesmen won the first two meetings in 1972 (21-10) and 1973 (28-7), while the Raiders prevailed 42-7 in the second round of the 2008 NCAA Division III Football Championship.
 
Ticket information will be announced on Monday, Nov. 14.
 
The game will be broadcast by WEOS-FM (89.5/90.3).
