The Hobart and William Smith Colleges sailing team compiled in two regattas in the New York City area this weekend. The Colleges finished second at the New York Maritime Open and third at the Nevins Trophy.

On the East River, at the NY Maritime Open, sailors dealt with tough wind conditions all weekend only completing seven races in each division. HWS took second place with 68 points, 31 behind champion Georgetown. Sophomore
Pierre Thibodeau and senior
Sarah Warren represented the Colleges in B Division, finishing first. They tied the Hoyas with 24 points but claimed the head-to-head tiebreaker. Thibodeau and Warren won two races and were in the top five in all but one, a sixth place finish in the second race. Junior
Bailey Carter and
Anna Flaherty sailed in A Division for HWS, placing fourth with 44 points. They were in the top five four times.

In Kings Point, N.Y., HWSÂ won A and B Divisions on its way to a third place finish at the Nevins Trophy. HWS finished the weekend with 336 points, three behind second place finisher Tufts. In A Division, senior
Greiner Hobbs and junior
Lindsey Kloc sailed to a 26 point victory over Georgetown. Hobbs and Kloc placed outside of the top-10 in just two of the 15 races. They posted two victories and were in the top five 10 times. Sophomores
Hector Guzman and
Maya Weber represented the Colleges in B Division, winning with 75 points, 13 ahead of second place Navy. They also won two races and had 13 top-10 finishes. Sophomore
Michael Munger sailed in C Division for HWS finishing 14th.

The Colleges will be back on the water for three regattas next weekend, Sept. 23-24. HWS will be in Ithaca, N.Y., for the North Fall Qualifier and in Annapolis, Md. for the MAISA Laser. William Smith sailors will also be in Annapolis competing for the Fay Bennet Trophy.
