For nearly 100 years, Boswell Field has been one of the most renowned sports venues in collegiate athletics. During 2010, the Boz was upgraded with the installation of state-of-the-art FieldTurf and lighting for night games and practices, resulting in a first-class facility that is safe and comfortable for spectators and augments the performances of student-athletes.
The renovation of Boswell Field was part of a larger project that constructed or renovated several spaces used by varsity and recreational athletes like, resulting in the Caird Center for Sports and Recreation. Made possible by the extraordinary generosity of James F. ’56 and Cynthia L. Caird, the Caird Center unites several keystone elements of the Colleges' athletics complex,
Bristol Field House,
Elliott Varsity House, Froelich Gatehouse,
Stiles Field, and
William Smith Field.
Originally located on Pulteney St. where the Warren Hunting Smith Library stands today, Boswell Field was originally built in the 1920s. Relocated to its current location in 1974, the Boz has hosted several NCAA football and lacrosse playoff contests and is sure to host more with its recent makeover.
