The Betsy Mitchell '65 Award is given in recognition of a William Smith athlete whose success at the Colleges has been characterized by meeting and overcoming significant personal challenges.

Betsy Mitchell graduated from William Smith in 1965 and served as an administrator at the Colleges from 1979 through 1996. In her capacity as assistant and associate dean for nearly 20 classes of William Smith students, she was a friend, counselor, mentor, role model and surrogate parent. Her guidance, care, and love for her students made an immeasurable impact on their lives.
