Indoor Turf Field Project

Hobart and William Smith scholar athletes are grateful that the Colleges' Board of Trustees has approved a fundraising initiative for an indoor turf field to be located at the south end of Robert A. Bristol '31 Field House. A generous lead gift for this $3.5 million project has come from Trustee Thomas B. Poole '61, L.H.D. '06 and Mary Jane M. Poole P'91.

In addition, the new indoor turf field will serve as a recruiting beacon to attract the best scholar athletes to the Colleges.

We look to supporters of Statesmen and Heron athletic programs to help fund this $3.5 million project. When built, it will provide a spectacular new facility for our varsity teams and will free up space in Bristol Field House, increasing our ability to offer enhanced club, intramural and recreational programs.

Varsity field sports (mens’ and women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s soccer, football and field hockey) will be given priority access to the new indoor field for in-season practices and scrimmages as well as off-season training. The climate controlled environment will eliminate the difficulties created by inclement weather and enhance the competitiveness of HWS varsity teams.

Fundraising continues to ensure a January 2019 opening for this long-awaited facility for student athletes and HWS athletic programs.
