4 Statesmen oarsmen honored at Block H

Four members of the Hobart rowing team were recently honored by the Statesmen Athletic Association (SAA) and the Hobart Athletics Department at the annual Block H Awards Dinner. Junior Jack Trimble  took the top award, receiving the S. Ford Weiskittel Crew Award as the team's most valuable oarsman.

Sophomore Mark Wasmund, senior Carmen Cimini and first-year Coty Burgess were also acknowledged.

Trimble rowed in the varsity eight and guided the team to its fifth consecutive Liberty League Championship and a silver medal at the New York State Championships. At the state championships, Hobart crossed the line in the grand final with a time of 6 minutes, 3.3 seconds, only bested by Division I Marist with a time of 6:01.5. Trimble helped the Statesmen earn eight Liberty League Boat of the Week Awards this season. He earned a spot on the ECAC/NIRC Steward's All-Academic Team and was also an ECAC/NIRC All-Conference oarsman.

The Most Improved Rower Award went to Wasmund. A member of the second varsity eight for a majority of the season, he helped Hobart win a gold medal at the Head of the Fish regatta with a winning time of 11:22.40, just over a second better than second place Williams. He helped the second varsity eight to a fourth place finish at the Knecht Cup with a time of 6:06.23, finishing ahead of two Division I entries Bucknell (6:18.68) and Fordham (6:23.40).

Cimini received the Charles “Chip” Hart award for his determination and commitment throughout the season. Along with Trimble, Cimini was a member of the varsity eight that won the Liberty League Championship, and a silver medal at states. Cimini also played an integral role in helping the Statesmen earn eight Liberty League Boat of the Week Awards this season.

Burgess was the recipient of the Rookie Award for Rowing. He led the novice eight to a second place finish at the Head of the Fish regatta, trailing only Syracuse. He also led the novice eight to a 13-second victory over RIT with a time of 7:34.3. At the Knecht Cup, Burgess helped the novice eight to a third place finish with a time of 6:26.98. He also helped the novice eight win the Liberty League Boat of the Week Award, following a gold medal winning performance at the state championships.
