The Hobart College rowing team was supposed to get its spring schedule underway on Saturday, March 29, but Old Man Winter has been reluctant to release his grasp on the Cayuga Inlet. Ice continues to clog the waterway, forcing race organizers to postpone the season opening Cayuga Duals in Ithaca, N.Y.
Hobart Head Rowing Coach
Paul Bugenhagen says details are still up in the air, but he expects the Statesmen will race Ithaca College on Sunday afternoon. The winner of the annual race between Hobart and Ithaca's varsity eights get the Statesmen Trophy. Hobart reclaimed the trophy last season with a nearly four-second victory, marking its third win over the Bombers in the past four seasons.
The eight-time defending Liberty League Champions return eight of the nine student-athletes—
Jessica Dinan,
Brett Lawhon,
August Wherry,
Robert McNamara,
Milos Milosavljevic,
W. Hunter Holtz,
Owen Monahan, and
Davis Muller—that comprised the title winning varsity eight and were voted the 2012-13 Liberty League Crew of the Year.
This past fall, Hobart's varsity eight won the collegiate eight division for the second straight season at the Head of the Genesee. The Statesmen's top crew also finished seventh out of 40 crews in the collegiate eights at the prestigious Head of the Charles.
