OSWEGO, N.Y.—The Hobart College hockey team fell to Oswego State 5-1 tonight at the Campus Center Arena. The Lakers, currently the top-ranked team in Division III, improve to 13-1-0 on the season, while the Statesmen slip to 5-6-2 overall.

Hobart opened the scoring in the first period and carried a 1-0 lead into the first break, but Oswego went on to score five unanswered goals to take control of the contest. First-year Brad Richard tallied on a power play in the 15th minute to give the Statesmen an early 1-0 lead. His second goal of the year was set up by junior Christopher Bower and senior Blake Bonham.

The Lakers countered with three second-period goals. Stephen Mallaro evened the game at 1-all on a power play just over four minutes into the stanza. Michael Gilchrist and Jon Whitelaw followed with tallies in the 10th and 12th minutes, respectively, to give Oswego a 3-1 advantage.

Back-to-back scores by Andrew Mather (11:37) and Whitelaw (12:07) in the final period put the Lakers firmly in control. Whitelaw led the hosts with two goals and two helpers on the night.

The Statesmen were 1-for-4 on the power play, while the Lakers were 3-for-6. Oswego outshot Hobart 32-30.

First-year Nick Broadwater collected 27 saves in net for the Statesmen, while Kyle Gunn-Taylor picked up 29 stops for the Lakers.

Hobart will be back in action on Jan. 7, when the Statesmen host Brockport for a non-league contest at 7 p.m.
