MILTON, Mass.—First-year Chris Cannizzaro scored the game-winning goal with 27 seconds remaining in the third period to lead the Hobart College hockey team to a 4-2 victory over 12th-ranked Curry in non-league action tonight at Max Ulin Rink. Cannizzaro finished with two goals, helping the Statesmen improve to 7-6-2 overall. The Colonels slipped to 7-4-1 on the season.

Curry struck first, nine minutes, 15 seconds into the first period, and held on to take a 1-0 lead into the first break. The even-strength goal was scored by Steven Mohler, set up by Payden Benning and Jerry Hotarek.

Hobart evened the contest at 1-all in the 17th minute of the second stanza, when Cannizzaro netted his first goal of the night on a power play. Junior Patrick Moriarty and first-year Brad Richard recorded the assists.

Curry responded just 5:25 into the third period to take a 2-1 advantage. George Ishman tallied for the Colonels, with Hotarek and Benning again picking up the helpers.

The hosts’ lead was short-lived. Hobart senior Blake Bonham put away an unassisted tally in the 14th minute to tie the game at 2-all. Soon after, Cannizzaro notched his ninth goal of the season to put the Statesmen up 3-2. His game-winner was assisted by first-year Harry Radovich.

Hobart senior Bobby Cahill put the contest out of reach with an empty net goal at the 19:55 mark, finishing a pass from junior Christopher Bower.

First-year goalie Nick Broadwater stopped 38 shots in net for the Statesmen to earn his sixth win of the year, while Steven Jakiel picked up 39 saves for Curry.

Hobart held a narrow 43-40 advantage in shots, and was 1-for-5 on the power play. The Colonels were 0-for-2.

The Statesmen will be back in action Jan. 15, when they host Wentworth for a non-conference game at 7 p.m.
