Hobart College junior Patrick Moriarty was tabbed the ECAC West Men’s Hockey Player of the Week, after leading the Statesmen to a 5-3 victory over then sixth-ranked Elmira on Saturday. First-year goalie Nick Broadwater was named to the league’s Weekly Honor Roll as well, for his part in handing the Soaring Eagles their first ECAC West loss of the season.

Moriarty paced Hobart at Elmira with two goals, including the game-winner, and an assist. He set up the Statesmen’s first goal of the game, a short-handed tally by junior Matthew Wallace in the ninth minute of the contest, and went on to score the eventual game-winner on a power play midway through the second period. In the third period, he added another power-play goal, giving the Statesmen a 5-2 lead with just over 13 minutes to play.

Broadwater stopped 37 of the 40 Soaring Eagle shots he faced, posting a .925 save percentage. The win marked Broadwater’s ninth of the year. He currently leads the ECAC West in save percentage (.926) and ranks second in goals against average (2.41).

Hobart (10-9-2, 6-4-1) will be back on the ice this weekend, Feb. 12-13, when the Statesmen travel to Lebanon Valley (0-22-0, 0-12-0) for two ECAC West games.
