Broadwater tabbed Rookie of the Year by USCHO.com; 5 honored by ECAC

USCHO.com's ECAC West writer Scott Biggar tabbed Hobart College first-year Nick Broadwater the ECAC West Rookie of the Year. He also named first, second, and all-rookie teams. Junior forward Matthew Wallace was named to the second team, while Broadwater, first-year forward Chris Cannizzaro and first-year defenseman Brad Richard all earned spots on the All-Rookie Team.

Additionally, the ECAC West announced its all-conference awards, voted on by the league coaches. Wallace, Broadwater, and senior defenseman Bryant Harris were all named to the ECAC Men's West All-Conference Second Team. Broadwater also earned a spot on the ECAC West's All-Rookie Team, as did Cannizzaro and Richard.

Broadwater played 22 games in net for the Statesmen this season, earning a 10-8-3 record. He posted a .925 save percentage, a 2.41 goals against average, and one shutout. Broadwater's save percentage is the best in the ECAC West, and his goals against average ranks second. He stopped 644 shots this winter, including a season-high 49 in a 3-2 loss to then 11th-ranked Elmira. Broadwater ranks third on the all-time season records list in goals against average, fourth in save percentage, and fifth in saves. He was selected the conference's Goalie of the Week three times and the Rookie of the Week once.

Wallace leads the team and ranks fifth in the ECAC West in goals (15). He also leads the league in short-handed points (4) and short-handed goals (4), and is fourth in power-play goals (7) and ninth in points (28). Wallace tallied a goal and four assists in a 9-2 victory at Lebanon Valley, tying the Hobart records for points (5) and assists (4) in a game. He also tied the Hobart season record for short-handed tallies. Wallace netted his second career hat trick this season, scoring all three Statesmen goals at Geneseo. He was named the ECAC West's Player of the Week once this year.

A team captain, Harris has been a mainstay on the Hobart defense for the past four years. This winter, he posted a goal and five assists in 25 games. Harris led a Statesmen defense that ranked third in the ECAC West in both scoring defense (2.73 g/gm) and penalty kill (82.1%). He wraps his career with 11 goals and 21 assists in 105 games.

Cannizzaro ranks second on the team and 14th in the ECAC West in points (22). He is second in the league in freshman scoring, and 11th in both goals (11) and power-play goals (5). He also tied the program mark for points in a game, totaling three goals and two helpers in a 9-1 win over the Flying Dutchmen. He was named the league's Rookie of the Week twice.

Richard played in 24 games for the Statesmen, tallying three goals and 13 assists on the season. He ranks third in the ECAC West in defenseman scoring and fourth in freshman scoring. Richard recorded a season-high three assists in Hobart's 4-2 win at then 11th-ranked Manhattanville. He was dubbed the league's Rookie of the Week once.

The Statesmen wrapped the season with a 13-10-3 overall record and a 9-4-2 mark in the ECAC West. They finished third in the league's regular season standings.
