DeCroo signs pro contract with CHL’s Quad City

Hobart graduate Nick DeCroo '10 recently re-signed with the Central Hockey League's Quad City Mallards. The Sarver, Pa., native played for the Mallards during spring break this year before returning to campus to complete his degree.

“Nick is a good sized wing who has the ability to score and win battles,” Mallards Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Frank Anzalone said in a team press release. “His good skating ability will also help him.”

After the end of Hobart's 2009-10 season, DeCroo played four games with Quad City, which plays in the i wireless Center in Moline, Ill. He returned to campus to complete a bachelor's degree in economics.

A team captain during his senior season, DeCroo was plagued by injury, but still managed four goals and two assists in 10 games with the Statesmen. His efforts earned him Hobart's Holden Award for sportsmanship, character, and leadership.

DeCroo joined the Statesmen as a sophomore, and led the team in goals in 2007-08 (15) and 2008-09 (20). He was tabbed first team All-ECAC West as a junior, after finishing the year ranked second in the league in goals and eighth in points (29).

DeCroo was named to the ECAC West All-Academic Team twice. He finished his career first on Hobart's all-time list for short-handed goals (8), and twice tied the standard for goals in a game (3). DeCroo also shares the top spot for short-handed goals in a season (4), and ranks ninth in both goals (20) and power-play goals (7) in a season.

DeCroo led the Statesmen to a 52-25-7 record during his three seasons, including NCAA Tournament appearances in 2007-08 and 2008-09. The latter team posted a school record 21 wins and advanced to the national semifinals for just the second time in program history.
